Last year one of my kids wished to have a Jack and Sally ( nightmare before Christmas) playhouse. My partner and I wanted to replicate the fireplace in Jack Skellingtons home, but we had to keep it in budget. After some research we discovered we could get some inexpensive large sheet foam (4x8) from Home Depot and use a dremmell to create the brick. This is how it turned out <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX-mLe4XgepN_zwq4GwKfFiKjmjV0TK_Jra7Xifxgz6UMHSLPIE6wMTbkpMT3hVQdKJHDxmhAWvJN5qMQG_odDbRq6MiKBc6tUdwkWiYAORhJoUJoITKkV4NOgTIeWn3xmrgRbgZZQ6C-_/s640/681D0057-6B3D-47CC-AAD5-851CD48F92EB.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX-mLe4XgepN_zwq4GwKfFiKjmjV0TK_Jra7Xifxgz6UMHSLPIE6wMTbkpMT3hVQdKJHDxmhAWvJN5qMQG_odDbRq6MiKBc6tUdwkWiYAORhJoUJoITKkV4NOgTIeWn3xmrgRbgZZQ6C-_/s320/681D0057-6B3D-47CC-AAD5-851CD48F92EB.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>So fun right?! For Halloween I thought it would be a great change to have one in black. But how would be the best way to get the deep dark black I was looking for? Pre-dyeing all the filters with craft paint was one suggestion I came across, but the time for them to dry and the mess just wasn’t something I was up for. So I decided to experiment and see if making them first with just the coffee filter and then spraying it with black spray paint would work. It did! It’s an easy, inexpensive craft that just takes about 3-4 hours to make. That’s two Halloween movies! Here’s what you will need:<p></p><p>Dollar store foam wreath </p><p>1 pkg coffee filters ( dollar store)</p><p>Glue gun</p><p>Glue sticks</p><p>Chopstick ( or something to hold coffee filter onto foam)</p><p>Scissors</p><p>Black spray paint </p><p>Black, orange, white ribbon </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtdhdPQ5r1TB5Z3UlUbtSdV9k3I2G604S6169wYYRgrxdtcpLA5ub5eIPlanjWXb1XUwMIesWEHGm5YJ6mDxwop-ocM77azVl5fC0BR6SJljLqCoYQQY1s77qqHwUSU4hzDSNNi2eMTAfv/s2048/AAA0AFDA-8654-4C46-A815-606B89A1C1AC.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtdhdPQ5r1TB5Z3UlUbtSdV9k3I2G604S6169wYYRgrxdtcpLA5ub5eIPlanjWXb1XUwMIesWEHGm5YJ6mDxwop-ocM77azVl5fC0BR6SJljLqCoYQQY1s77qqHwUSU4hzDSNNi2eMTAfv/s320/AAA0AFDA-8654-4C46-A815-606B89A1C1AC.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Get comfortable! <br />
Each year for Halloween I like to do something big to fill the space in my great room. This year I knew I wanted something that would fit in with a dungeon type theme so I started thinking about a bat cave. In the past I have done haunted houses and hung string or shredded tablecloth that people would have to walk through. I wanted something a little more than plastic tablecloths though. I have also used shredded sheets to hang on my porch, which was my friend Heidi’s idea. But I knew I needed some support to pull that look off. I made a trip to Lowe’s wondering if they might have some netting that would be cheap and help me achieve the look I wanted. I found this black Blue Hawk netting 50ft x4 ft for $24.95 it was perfect for the amount of space I needed to cover.<br />
<br />
So here is what you will need, this is great for both inside and outside decorations<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First measure the amount of netting you will need for your space, this will help determine how much fabric you will need. I had some old sheets I had dyed years ago. Using scissors I would put a little snip across the sheet every 3 inches and then I would rip it the rest of the way. It goes a lot faster! I also used gray burlap from hobby lobby, 15 yds for this space. Different colors and fabrics enhance the look. Once you have all your strips cut the next step is to tie the netting to something secure, I used weighted chairs and my banister. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUnrAEx5ZPV75w8QjtWL3tA-7PVgKf6IootwK30-T4eRtOoUFNt-px3KXBOAiftbLO-n-BxQscQiHVJEgg08Hk-amYxF980Q3Xp7btRdL4rvs9YswY-jDp3yCJcqeTLIPsnGE888TL3g-/s1600/58434400-76B8-4568-BC48-BCEDB084F5B3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="968" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUnrAEx5ZPV75w8QjtWL3tA-7PVgKf6IootwK30-T4eRtOoUFNt-px3KXBOAiftbLO-n-BxQscQiHVJEgg08Hk-amYxF980Q3Xp7btRdL4rvs9YswY-jDp3yCJcqeTLIPsnGE888TL3g-/s320/58434400-76B8-4568-BC48-BCEDB084F5B3.jpeg" width="242" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You will then begin threading the strips, you do not need to knot them in place. I would come up through one slot and then a couple of squares over thread the strip back down. Be mindful of the edging of the netting, it is sharp and can scratch. After attaching the strips, I then took some gauze from the dollar store and weaved it through the strips, this is not necessary but I think it adds more texture and fills it in more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I knew I wanted bats and found a great tutorial by Martha Stewart for some large ones. I used black poster board to cut these out. I had a ton of smaller bats precut from an event so I used those as well. I used a hole punch in the bottom of the bat, so it would be hanging upside down and then tied some black yarn. I then tied them intermittently through out the fabric to the netting.</div>

Covering this big of a space it was quite heavy. The original plan was to hang it across my ceiling. I had attached it to my curtain rod just to tie the strips but as I raised it up I loved the way it sloped. I could have tied it to my banister but I wanted to be able to look down so we decided to do a first in my Halloween decorating. Put hooks into our walls! We got some metal hooks and screwed them into the studs in our ceilings, we tried to go as small as we could. In a smaller area like this one </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was able to use 14 lb command hooks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After you hang it up in a smaller space you will notice you can see the edging where the netting droops because of the weight.. I took some black cheese cloth ( it’s thicker) or a strip of sheet and attached it to the hooks to cover the droop. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I originally put the gauze on first but found it easier to do it after.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before we raised it all up, I attached the string of lights, carefully figuring out how I would plug them in. I used the strips of fabric to knot the lights into place, then we raised it all up and anchored the netting to the hooks. The smaller space I would recommend attaching the lighting to separate 3m hooks so the lighting can act as a support to the netting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the porch I have vinyl siding for my porch ceiling. I tied some cotton twine to the ends and then I attached binder clips to the siding by clipping it between the siding. You might have to force it a little. I then threaded the cotton twine through the clips to hold the netting up. I also attached lighting. </div>

One of the best parts of camp are the skits and music! We were so lucky to have such talented women in our stake who were able to create some amazing new words to popular songs and skits. Thanks to Sara Dewitt, Wendy Smith and Teresa Evans for their talent! </div>

the Pirates who don't do anything. We thought it would be a good, humorous way to highlight the rules of camp. I would recommend recording the girls singing it before hand because it goes pretty fast and is a little hard to hear what everyone is saying.</div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">For the first night of Girl's Camp we always like to set the tone of camp. We have found that doing a "walk" of some kind is something the girl's really enjoy and gives a great opportunity for us to introduce the theme in a fun and spiritual way.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">This year we decided to do Sky High (you know like the movie?!) We found great inspiration from Sherri Dew's book "God Needs a Powerful People" and other resources. These were the 6 classes:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Super Hero Manual (Power in the Scriptures) English Teacher</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sidekick & Villain Training (Holy Ghost Vs. Adversary) PE Teacher</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Super Hero Tech (Using Technology Wisely) Tech Teacher</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Protecting your Identity (Your Origin Story) Design Teacher (Edna)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Super Hero Headquarters (Sanctuary) Shop Teacher</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Combat Training (Power in the Atonement) Alumni</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">We asked leaders up at camp as well as a member of the Stake Presidency to be the teachers of these classes. We gave them this packet that our camp directory Coralyn Grant compiled, but encouraged them to make it there own and add personal touches. Each class was 10 minutes long with 5 minutes in between to walk. In total it was about an hour and half.</span><br />
<div style="display: block; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 12px auto 6px auto;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">This is the object lesson that I did for the Sidekick and Villains training. I think the girls really loved it! In the class we talked about Elder Bednar's talk on how the spirit communicates with us. I equated it to these lights (see packet above) and had each girl tie a tag with her name on it to her own personal light bulb. I needed to figure out a way that the girls could access the lights but also make it possible for me to raise them out of the way. Luckily my awesome husband came up to help us prep he was able to rig the lights with a rope that went the span of the stage, we then were able to put the strands like a V, the center of the strand around the rope and then the two ends tied off to a railing on the back of the stage. We then were able to lower and raise the rope by leaving enough lead rope hanging down, there was a tall piece of wood on one side of the stage with a hole near the top, we thread the rope through and then anchored it at the bottom. In contrast you could have the girls do the activity and then string the lights in between groups.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">For power we used Goal Zero solar generators, the lights only lasted about two hours because of the voltage but it was enough time for the activity. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We decided to do Pallet Signs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizXAU21Xc0h84ccFoEz316kvOX6ln-neF2L8Ycfg5e9OWsEKzM5PC8whe9PqCZ_T_t_VTRkorhMT-1tjBQffW7HXnsOQCgP0ebIEY-2rsLf2nfNKKymld7K9nTSfbOkT_oRKRKtX5ti6Fc/s1600/IMG_7872.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizXAU21Xc0h84ccFoEz316kvOX6ln-neF2L8Ycfg5e9OWsEKzM5PC8whe9PqCZ_T_t_VTRkorhMT-1tjBQffW7HXnsOQCgP0ebIEY-2rsLf2nfNKKymld7K9nTSfbOkT_oRKRKtX5ti6Fc/s200/IMG_7872.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We used Cedar Wood 1x6 6ft planks and Home Depot was nice enough to cut them for us. To make the planks here is what you will need for one Pallet sign:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4 1x6 6 ft cedar planks (we did cedar because it was cheap $1.56 on sale) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Box of 1 1/4 inch screws</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Milk paint (I got mine from hobby lobby using a coupon)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sponge brush</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
paint brushes with slanted or straight edge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Parchment paper (for tracing)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
craft paint</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
pencil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the pallet as I mentioned I had Home Depot cut the wood in half for us so we had 8 pieces of wood (we wanted the pallets to be 3x3 ft) I took the 6 pieces of wood and lined them up on top of each other against a straight edge on my garage floor. I then took the other two pieces of wood and placed them vertically near the edge of each side, they were a little long, so I did have to use my jigsaw to "nip" the ends off.( make sure you have the best side of the wood facing down, so it is the top piece) I took the screws and with a drill, drilled the screws into the wood, I used 4 screws per plank on each side. Make sure to keep the pieces tight, they will move on you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiivap91RWeTmdm0-agJbdoxbxxiG00j_0SFhDMtuWt2Ol6ANRItZ7LXTY7ZP2kLAvugyjWsy_N48KYa-SChQoe74wWZ6URDsGmNWXL8PHTrgvj0jsQSjZ07bsLmFrE-zSJNKmeR43L6216/s1600/IMG_7873.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiivap91RWeTmdm0-agJbdoxbxxiG00j_0SFhDMtuWt2Ol6ANRItZ7LXTY7ZP2kLAvugyjWsy_N48KYa-SChQoe74wWZ6URDsGmNWXL8PHTrgvj0jsQSjZ07bsLmFrE-zSJNKmeR43L6216/s200/IMG_7873.jpg" width="150" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-kP4iZ4qhHdRWckxSv89IBtpb3JlmJb1w4vs_41Civms8FgU_oOBufLpRrodODrmNQL_oboTQ6vVY4t0tLh_Aacz-IdzeACZZx9tMqoELZgDaWRmfAd67EiUQ8A5Q5FauZEPoYqdtH4Jk/s1600/IMG_7874.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-kP4iZ4qhHdRWckxSv89IBtpb3JlmJb1w4vs_41Civms8FgU_oOBufLpRrodODrmNQL_oboTQ6vVY4t0tLh_Aacz-IdzeACZZx9tMqoELZgDaWRmfAd67EiUQ8A5Q5FauZEPoYqdtH4Jk/s200/IMG_7874.jpg" width="150" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up was applying the Milk Paint, I set the Pallet on 2 buckets and put an old tablecloth underneath, I then got several sponge brushes (the wood tears them up) and started applying it in a back and forth motion, be sure to get the sides as well. I didn't paint all the wood, I just used a dry brush technique, I still wanted to see some of the wood coming through.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhabWHHJnwwJf8ZWIivtof9Rwv6P-pZLdxIK5-_N-_hpcRdYJfoSPY6ZkGWA8PCtvPCY1hBC2E9T9Y07E-B7YPl73I-u2q0iROusswE1bXP0OEULN7KPb5THO_aS-VjL3lP6peUJh3aGYW-/s1600/IMG_7242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhabWHHJnwwJf8ZWIivtof9Rwv6P-pZLdxIK5-_N-_hpcRdYJfoSPY6ZkGWA8PCtvPCY1hBC2E9T9Y07E-B7YPl73I-u2q0iROusswE1bXP0OEULN7KPb5THO_aS-VjL3lP6peUJh3aGYW-/s320/IMG_7242.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After it was dry, I then took the pallet into my house (air conditioning!) and placed it on my kitchen table (with another old tablecloth underneath) For the flags we were making (I'll share that next) we had to trace the designs, so I already had the stencils needed to trace the image onto the pallet. I used the corrugated signs we had made for Camp Kickoff for tracing the stencils.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dnU7ha79M6f0knEFKOzzK1duYZc6yeE_jPMXh-y4y6cgCmjwrwnL_MBLgfGAb33vMhgBcKzwG3NEGD1lbb1uxvna8AsQL5-WgZgdY2YxWPm7kwG68lqYBY_j2xZC3zFJNEZph1LBDoiC/s1600/IMG_6397.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dnU7ha79M6f0knEFKOzzK1duYZc6yeE_jPMXh-y4y6cgCmjwrwnL_MBLgfGAb33vMhgBcKzwG3NEGD1lbb1uxvna8AsQL5-WgZgdY2YxWPm7kwG68lqYBY_j2xZC3zFJNEZph1LBDoiC/s200/IMG_6397.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the stencils I put tracing paper (my husband is an architect and has special paper they use) but you can use parchment paper as well, over the image needing to be traced. Now because these are 3 ft by 3ft the image needs to be very large. You may have to go to office depot or Costco and have your image printed in large format if you don't have signs made already. Because my image has a shadow in it, I traced just the white portions and then I traced the outline of the shadow. So in the end I had layers, this is important for making the flags as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I first traced the circle onto the pallet making sure it was centered, to make the circle I used my cotton candy pan (had to get creative) and then for the inside circle I used a big embroidery hoop I was using as a wreath. Just look around your house, the circles need to big enough to fit your image. I then painted the area between the two circles and let it dry. (this is where a good paint brush comes in handy to get sharp edges)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSgXvmGxEKMlUOcN1bxpvYPWgSNf4Ng7JxrpzW5_xFzqPcBt0EQ8PXwAhv4vw-DNRt0rFSAq37siylYxcpIi0zw42PYrNgSQzDvrkaeSvuuSJlc_ghpCxPD8ygnRuC1L2QRUT7P8u5VdYq/s1600/IMG_7271.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSgXvmGxEKMlUOcN1bxpvYPWgSNf4Ng7JxrpzW5_xFzqPcBt0EQ8PXwAhv4vw-DNRt0rFSAq37siylYxcpIi0zw42PYrNgSQzDvrkaeSvuuSJlc_ghpCxPD8ygnRuC1L2QRUT7P8u5VdYq/s200/IMG_7271.jpg" width="150" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I took my shadow stencils first and placed them within the circle, once I had them in the right places I took my pencil and traced around them. I then took the craft paint color I needed for the pallet and filled in around the tracing. (I did the opposite on the key, it works better doing the shadow first)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnV_PVi33OteTATVQIL8m7Q8yju6q1SoVlTgBumGO3OIJ1EChPJsu7QFn1MN0oFquolZyNsbEUUblfmKHV8QciIdcSsiY_00sGXAvNMZFinGnbaWkxYO_Qh-24xVw-1PLfex3eIptpUDsU/s1600/IMG_7275.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnV_PVi33OteTATVQIL8m7Q8yju6q1SoVlTgBumGO3OIJ1EChPJsu7QFn1MN0oFquolZyNsbEUUblfmKHV8QciIdcSsiY_00sGXAvNMZFinGnbaWkxYO_Qh-24xVw-1PLfex3eIptpUDsU/s200/IMG_7275.jpg" width="150" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS72N8yLGV_8bNkZUljKlbRYIoWrhVeQnrY25czx97xAZauonzdYrFsTgoBys8Edqcl93nsW-j-hUQJT9fFVKd5RrRoeZB9p5-GU_ty3h9Cpotne4BEeUaEKWZ2Juz__yYasisKkDYmcvd/s1600/IMG_7243.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS72N8yLGV_8bNkZUljKlbRYIoWrhVeQnrY25czx97xAZauonzdYrFsTgoBys8Edqcl93nsW-j-hUQJT9fFVKd5RrRoeZB9p5-GU_ty3h9Cpotne4BEeUaEKWZ2Juz__yYasisKkDYmcvd/s200/IMG_7243.jpg" width="150" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After the paint had dried I then placed the white portion of the stencil where it needed to go (lined up correctly, I had to refer to the original a lot!) and traced it. I then took my black craft paint and filled in the space. I didn't fill in the white because I like the look of the milk paint, keeping it rustic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kYKdDnol44TZdkHPT3N1txkdNGIVXxcw9TdSO1J_QQZ2t3tp4lrEJZZrVfIjuT5j-UNwQKHzwBpsPjSH_k5ztSvOQKYCzGhUPjloSyns2xPm0t3waCtuQsKBrWNYYSwhRgNl_NpJwAG1/s1600/IMG_7245.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kYKdDnol44TZdkHPT3N1txkdNGIVXxcw9TdSO1J_QQZ2t3tp4lrEJZZrVfIjuT5j-UNwQKHzwBpsPjSH_k5ztSvOQKYCzGhUPjloSyns2xPm0t3waCtuQsKBrWNYYSwhRgNl_NpJwAG1/s320/IMG_7245.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then printed off letters from the font Badaboom to add the wards names, I just cut the letters out I needed and traced them onto the pallet and then filled them in with black craft paint. Sorry it's upside down lol! I was taking a quick picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We decided to have a guest speaker who would speak on the importance of talents and gifts. We had a musical number "Glorious" (originally sung by David Archuleta) and we had our YCL's make a cute video/commercial showing how sometimes we wish we had other peoples talents but it's important to recognize and build our own. Decorating the gym was a big part of our planning. We wanted to be able to use the decorations for Kickoff as well as at camp so we could get the most out of our decorations. We really wanted to do a cityscape big enough for our Amphitheater at camp 10 ft x 15 ft, we tried pricing a banner out and it was way out of budget so we decided to sew it ourselves. Last year I made some cinch backpacks out of some no sew fabric, it's pretty durable, comes in 60" wide and is cheap, we're talking $2.99 a yard but you can use a 40% off coupon! I found it in all different colors at Hobby Lobby. Figured it would be perfect for our cityscape. This is what it looked like<br />

We got 5 yards of blue and 10 yards of black and a little yellow. We made a base of blue and black sewn together,(10 ft high 15 ft wide) we then found a cityscape that we liked and on graphing paper figured out the dimensions for fitting it to our base. We then cut out the buildings in sections (there are 5) We sewed the windows on before attaching the buildings to the base, we did this by pinning them in place and just sewing around the edges. To attach the buildings we hung the base and then pinned them on. We sewed them on just following the edges. (make sure when you are determining the horizon for the buildings you keep it higher then 5 ft, otherwise you will see where you sewed the blue and black base together.)</div>

We then had our Ignite logo printed on banner material and cut it out and sewed it onto the base. We put grommets all around the edges for easy hanging. We hung it up on our stage, it made a great statement as people came in. It did awesome up at camp as well, it held up really well with the wind, we didn't have any rain, but it is rain resistant as well, so we weren't worried if it had. Here's what it looked like up at camp.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It looked amazing in pictures, the girl's used it as a photo booth as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up were banners, we have used tablecloths in the past for decorating, they are easy to sew and rain resistant so we decided to use them again. We chose bright colors and cut the tablecloths into pennants, we also found some wrapping paper that was polka dotted that we used as well. Make sure to use durable string since you will be using them outside as well. It's worth spending a little more on the thicker table cloths from Zurcher's, we also found the Kapow signs at Zurchers. I just used a stapler to attach the pennants (basically making a casing make sure you put the staple under the string I did 4-5 staples), make sure to staple the bottoms as well to add some extra weight, so they hang straight.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had our Value shields printed professionally onto plastic corrugated signs, after the fireside we wanted the girls to come into the gym and fill out their permission forms so we set up tables and signs designating where each ward would come to get their camp info. We just got extra table cloths and hung them on the walls (we saved them for another project I will post about) then put the corrugated sign in the middle. We then had a sign saying what ward it was since we were just introducing what ward had what value.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We served sugar cookies with frosting the colors of the values and different flavors of drinks, we called it our "Power aid station" we wrapped boxes in the same colors as the banners and put trays of cookies on top to give dimension and then put different quotes on skewers and pushed them into the boxes so they were standing up. It looked really great! I found the quote bubbles with a quick search on pinterest and added text with photoshop.</div>

<br />
This year for Stake Girl's Camp the Young Women of our stake decided they wanted to do a Super Hero theme, but we didn't want to go with the usual super heroes, we wanted the girls to be the heroes. Our theme was "Ignite your power within" we wanted to focus on the girls spiritual and physical talents to help them see that it is ok to be themselves! We also wanted to focus on how the girls can use Heavenly Father's powers (scriptures, prayer, atonement etc..) to strengthen their own. Our scripture was Moroni 10: 7-8, we also had themes for each day of camp which were: Look Upward (Look to Heavenly Father for guidance) Reach Outward (use your talents to help others) Press Forward (The Savior can help you keep moving forward), like how superman has his "up, up and away" ours was "Look upward, Reach outward, Press forward!" We have 8 wards in our stake so thought it would be perfect to assign each of the wards a Young Woman's Value that they could concentrate on in their own camp. We asked a talented woman, Jenny Smith, in our stake if she would create a value shield for each of them, this is what she came up with: (she has given permission to share these)<br />

Hope this helps you in your planning! You could also use it for New Beginnings or Young Women in Excellence. I have been so grateful for others who have been willing to share their work in the past I thought it would be nice to pay it forward. I'll be showing how we used these for decorations and other camp ideas in following posts. Look for our "Sky High" activity, Bishop's Assemble, Camp Kickoff, Crafts and Music/Skits as well as other Camp planning helps in the next posts.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was so excited to make the mummy this year, I actually made it in July :) with the help</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
of my 14 year old son, unfortunately there was a casualty in the making, his prized silicone bracelet</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
he got while we were in Paris :( so warning if you are going to make the mummy make sure all</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
jewelry is off and you are wearing clothes you don't care about because scissors are involved!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found a great tutorial here http://craftymommyandme.blogspot.ca</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
for the mummy, it was a little harder than I thought it would be, I used packing paper in the end</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to stuff it, it worked much better than the plastic sacks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The bat is inspired by Disney, they had it in one of their store windows, I bought the cage at hobby lobby and the bat was a perfect squishy bat from Target.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hands are another favorite part of Halloween this year I love this pic</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and wanted to recreate it, so you can imagine my excitement when I walked into Taipan and</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
saw these beauties, I know it's not the same, but it works just fine for me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some day I might figure out how to make this actually design though!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The End</div>

These spooky masks and wreath have really added to my entryway this year!<br />
<br />
I found the masks at Michaels, painted them a cream color and then used a gray for shading,<br />
here's a close-up of where I got the idea from (Porters in Idaho)<br />

<br />
<br />
I just love this hand! I saw it on etsy but it was sold out so I thought, "I can make this!" Here are the details:<br />
You will need:<br />
Pencil<br />
paper<br />
scissors<br />
floral wire<br />
batting<br />
thread and needle<br />
muslin<br />
crochet hook or chopstick<br />
lace<br />
antique button<br />
black sweater sleeve or cable knee high socks or just regular knee high black socks<br />
spider<br />
hot glue<br />
Black DMC floss (pearl)<br />
Coffee<br />
Wood Candlestick<br />
Paint<br />
<br />
I traced my hand onto some paper, making sure I spread out my fingers and then elongated each finger about 1 1/2 inches. I cut it out and then traced the hand onto some muslin. After cutting it out (folded muslin in half to make two hands) I sewed them together (1/4 inch seam) leaving an opening at the bottom turn the hand inside out, this can be difficult with the fingers ( i used a crochet hook to help or something pointy like a chopstick) be careful not to put a hole in the finger (if you do just sew it up with some thread, it adds character) I then dipped the hand in liquid coffee and then poured some grounds onto it and rubbed them in. I would drip water on the grounds to help them "melt" into the material. I then let it air dry. I took an old pair of cable knee socks and cut them making a tube 6 inches long. I found the lace at walmart and cut it the width of the sock all the way around. I found some pearl buttons at Joann's, I used a needle and thread to sew the lace and button on. I then cut the floral wire just long enough to go in each of the 3 middle fingers so they met in the middle of the palm, then I stuffed the hand with batting (again the crochet hook or chopstick come in handy) the trick to getting the batting into the fingers is to not use too much batting, just tiny pieces. I found the spider at Michaels it came in a pack of 6 (they are glitter). I pinched the thumb and index finger together and used a thicker DMC floss (pearl) to sew them together, i then hot glued the spider to the floss and then put the hand on a wood candle stick I got from Hobby Lobby (not pictured, right now its sitting on a cutex bottle) and painted it a turquoise blue (love it against the black) That's it! I thought about making some warts or adding a big ring, make it yours!ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9049951816274688447.post-5496585750123368512013-09-27T07:48:00.001-07:002013-09-27T07:53:07.826-07:00Harry Potter Spell Book<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I took a foam brush and gently applied the coffee (just filled a mug with water and poured coffee in) the ink can smudge so be careful not to brush to hard. After the paper is well saturated, i trickle a small amount of coffee grounds on it, if there isn't enough water/coffee I will drip it onto the ground to again help it "melt" making it darken, I will then use the brush again to spread it, just a little bit. I then transfer the papers to another dry cookie sheet (I use a beat up one, because the coffee could be a little difficult to get off) and bake it at 200 degrees for about 5 minutes, just keep checking it. After it's dry, I then took a lighter and burned the edges of the paper.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">Next I found the center of the book and brushed mode podge down the center and onto the pages, I then lined up the paper with the crease of the book and slid it in, then pressed the page onto the actual book page to help it stick.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">That's all there was to it :)</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">To make the wands I just got some chopsticks and a big bag of decorative wood beads (found at walmart in the jewelry section) and then using my hot glue gun attached the beads in different ways, I then used craft paint to paint them different colors</span>ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9049951816274688447.post-67882012832824982372012-09-24T19:38:00.000-07:002012-09-24T19:38:51.348-07:00House rules<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Last year i saw <a href="http://www.supermommoments.com/2011/09/hoxton-street-monster-supplies/">this</a> on pinterest, and thought it would be fun to change it up to house rules. Thought I would share it with you, I uploaded the parseltongue font from <a href="http://www.overthebigmoon.com/frightfully-free-halloween-fonts/">overthebigmoon</a> and then distressed it by using <a href="http://www.curbly.com/users/diy-maven/posts/863-how-to-antique-paper">curblys</a> method of antiquing paper. Enjoy!</span>ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9049951816274688447.post-29982125969784926092011-10-17T13:39:00.000-07:002011-10-17T13:39:59.259-07:00Odds and endsThought I would just post some pictures of some of my things I have around the house.<br />

The floating candles were my friend Debbie's idea. They nearly knock a tall person out when the door swings them, but they are a fun piece.<br />

My favorite part is that she has boobs! oh sigh! My friend was talking with me the other day and happened to look at her and exclaimed "Libby she has boobs!" (hee,hee) The reason for the pic, is actually the chair, I reupholstered it with this fun halloween print. The picture above is from Porter's(local craft store) it has a motion detector and lights up and plays scary music. Jared is scared to death of it! The boys love to turn it on when someone knocks at the door so it will go off as the door opens. You have been warned!<br />

I painted an old table black and put the gauze (dollar store) on it. The drapes are a bed spread that I died black/pruple (love the stripes!) I gathered it and put a wire around the top, then got a removable hook and put it on there. I then cut up the middle, hung the picture (Haunted Mansion, my friend Debbie gave me) and put the drape around the frame. The saying underneath says "Be Afraid of things that go bump in the night" (Michaels) I had to go on quite the search for the candy. The big lollipops I got from Taipan (pricey $3.95 each) I filled a short green vase with candy corn, got black and purple flowers from the dollar store and tied a ribbon around the vase and then put the lollipops in. The oldfashioned candy sticks I went out to This is the Place Heritage Park, they had purple, so I bunched them together and tied them with a ribbon, later I found the black and white at a local candy shop. The other vase i got the candies from See's. I already had the silver plater, but you could get one on the dollar store. The owl and skull I got at Taipan. The other picture is an original painting of the haunted mansion. The candles I got from Michaels using a 50% off coupon.<br />

I'm not sure what website she used but here's one that gives a good tutorial. <a href="http://www.theribbonretreat.com/blog/fabric-halloween-banner.html">Halloween banner</a> I used felt as the backing. So I sewed the front piece to the felt, just going around the shape with about an inch border. I then used pinking shears to cut the border.Notice I also used different ribbon and rick rack to add to the design. Thanks mom!<br />

The wreath is a grapevine wreath I just hot glued spanish moss on and added snakes (martha stewart). The potions have different colored water beads you can get at walmart or craft stores. When you add water they expand.<br />

The orange things hanging are actually my "shrunken heads" I just peeled unusable apples and strung them on twine, I also put orange and black ribbon and gauze. At night I have lights that look like candles, it gives an awesome setting! My archway is a lattice, I took weeping willow branches and trimmed other bushes and put them in the lattice. Don't you love my big pumpkin? Jackson's parents grew it in their yard! That's it for now, but there is more! Can't wait to share!</div>ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9049951816274688447.post-46169504736107016782011-10-17T12:47:00.000-07:002011-10-17T12:47:57.923-07:00The Candelabra<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggAg-lgNFMaOvMaScg79wkV43hC3U94SlWSArIfj2Rjp1_h4UmuQoaxQ7VM2oeIPOEDCrHFQAaSpijnDLbyzNjga54eSgz1-o0_-8rPgadtwXHc7PXRlByFnpbVs0rRN9NYkZqNvTVjZtP/s1600/halloween+blog+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggAg-lgNFMaOvMaScg79wkV43hC3U94SlWSArIfj2Rjp1_h4UmuQoaxQ7VM2oeIPOEDCrHFQAaSpijnDLbyzNjga54eSgz1-o0_-8rPgadtwXHc7PXRlByFnpbVs0rRN9NYkZqNvTVjZtP/s320/halloween+blog+002.JPG" width="213" /></a>I </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I was so excited to see this post last year, but didn't have time to make it. So this year I made sure to set aside some time. It actually only took about an hour to make, because I lucked out at the DI store and found a lamp stand already to go, I just had to add the chandelier. I put black lace on it instead of beads and got my candles for not too much at walmart. The scary part was trying to gut the electric stuff. It didn't take long to see that a wire cutter was my friend. Save all of the screws and bolts, (you might need them later) and definitely use work gloves. Go <a href="http://tatertotsandjello.com/2010/09/guest-project-diy-halloween-candelabra.html">here</a>. Thanks Tatertots and jello! oh the little ornaments are from RodWorks in Draper and Lehi, Utah. I got them a few years ago, so I don't know if they still have them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Another idea!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So when doing the mummy head, i thought it would look really creepy to just see a face in a jar. I didn't have anything big enough, so I went to my local DI store and found a lamp, (You know the 70's kind) that had this as a base. I tore all the cuts out and painted it black. I then sawed the face off of the manequinn and put it up against the glass, I put bay leaves on the bottom and then a flameless candle. At night it really does look creepy, especially because the glass has an orange tint that the candle lights. The black crow I got at the dollar store, I think it cost me $10 in all.</div>ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9049951816274688447.post-54617498510342872102011-10-17T12:26:00.000-07:002011-10-17T12:26:39.673-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Iw-IK6CHHiofKYjN7jfgYfLxk68bU_Sl55MUgHmNoFvRzho8H8oo3wGxdA6fa4oIkz7HH9yhy69H3Jl4DMBY2B2Z_vJxi-mbnac-61aIpFZDev_pCpZ6adhmlZhZ6fL7zLy5CUp8v9qX/s1600/halloween+blog+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Iw-IK6CHHiofKYjN7jfgYfLxk68bU_Sl55MUgHmNoFvRzho8H8oo3wGxdA6fa4oIkz7HH9yhy69H3Jl4DMBY2B2Z_vJxi-mbnac-61aIpFZDev_pCpZ6adhmlZhZ6fL7zLy5CUp8v9qX/s320/halloween+blog+005.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<span style="font-family: Courier New;">So I have to place blame somewhere for this obsession, I believe it began with my mother. (of course!) She always loved decorating our house with fun little decorations and dressing up. I definitely have taken it up a notch. 4 years ago we started a tradition of having a haunted house halloween night. It has become a big hit, so much so, that when I tell people where I live they say, oh you live in the halloween house. Each year I try to make new halloween decorations and I have quite a few comments on the things I make. So I thought "why not post a blog on what I have made." Now let me make it clear, I AM NOT AS CREATIVE AS PEOPLE THINK! Almost all of my ideas are from other places, so as I post my creations I will give credit where credit it due! I might put my own twist on things, but it is usually someone elses talent that I copy! Hope you enjoy, and please feel free to ask questions, I'll answer them the best I can!</span>ferguson5http://www.blogger.com/profile/02954508714271215460noreply@blogger.com0
